About
Stephanie Brohman is a Metalsmith and Teaching Artist based in Chicago, IL. Stephanie started taking metalsmithing classes when she was 15 at a local art center. After being introduced to Metalsmith Magazine while visiting the SOFA show, she knew this was there was no turning back. She received her MFA from the University of Iowa with a focus in Metals and Jewlery, a minor in Sculpture and also received a Certificate in Bookbinding and Papermaking, from the UI Center of the Book. She Completed her undergraduate studies earning a BFA at Savannah College of Art and Design with a focus in Metals and Jewelry as well as Fiber Arts.
Upon graduating, Stephanie moved back to Chicago where she teaches numerous art centers, beginning to advanced classes, teaching people of all ages. When not teaching she creates time for her own work. A big part of Stephanie’s practice is process and experimenting, you can find her in the studio experimenting with a new technique, material, stone or color to add to her work. By combining precious and non precious materials she finds joy in the balance between contemporary jewelry and fine jewelry. After participating in two Radical Jewelry Makeover exhibitions, she has been more cognisant of her footprint as a metalsmith and has been repurposing more jewelry that would have been thrown out and turning it into something new and beautiful. Her work is inspired by nature, connections, humor, media, and how we as humans interact with each other and our world.
